男 ，汉族 ，1938年生 ，福建漳州人。第一批国家级非物质文化遗产项目漳州木偶头雕刻代表 性传承人 ，享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家 ，中国艺术研究院民间艺术创作研究员。徐竹初出 身于木偶雕刻世家 ，为家族木偶头雕刻的第六代传人 ，多年来从事木偶雕刻艺术的研究、教 学、创作工作。徐竹初的木偶雕刻俗称 “北派木偶” ，取材、技法源于汉剧的风格模式 ，强 调戏剧的表情化和性格化。他在继承祖辈优秀雕刻手法的同时 ，形成了自己的独特风格 ，木 偶造型多达六百余种 ，生、 旦、 净、末、 丑各行当齐全 ，神态各异 ，生动传神。代表作品 有：《老翁》《雷万春》等。 目前 ，徐竹初和儿子徐强坚守并积极传承徐氏木偶头雕刻技艺 。
